Our latest rescues and news!
May 15, 2023!
It's been a while. We have never been this busy in our lives! We have 9 houses now, and a camper housing cats at this time. We have taken in numerous cats with Feline Leukemia and FIV, and many ferals who otherwise would have been euthanized in shelters unequipped to house them or in locations where TNR is not allowed. We love our ferals!
May 29, 2022 Well! That happened fast. We took in 9 kittens and 1 mama kitty from a high kill shelter in South Texas. On the way to us, on their way to us they were potentially exposed to a highly dangerous virus called Panaleukopenia. If they had it, all would have likely passed away. We spent 14 days worried and watching for sign of this horrible disease (that is preventable with vaccine). We had one scare, but all are well and growing like crazy. This poor mama is tired! She had 5 kittens of her own and the shelter added 4 more (from two litters) that were orphans. She is a hero mama who saved their lives and she treats them all as her own! We call her Angel!
We also planned to TNR a colony of 15 cats based in Alvarado, but it became a full on rescue when the neighbors threatened the lives of the cats. They are all gorgeous and sweet and will be available for adoption once they are vetted.
We lost our sweet Sagittarius, a FELv positive kitty, to the wet form of FIP. In her honor, we pulled a beautiful orange tabby named Romeo, also FELv positive, from the Arlington Shelter. He is such a lover and adapted well to one of our FELv rooms.
We took in a FIV and FELv positive boy, who we named Cadbury, from a citizen plea. He is still in quarantine, but he absolutely loves to sleep in his bed on his back and is so sweet. He will be a great addition to our group!
We also took in a FELv positive girl, called Sapphire. She is a stunning Lynx Point who was also unfortunately already pregnant. She has miscarried one of the babies already, which is common with FELv and will likely lose all the babies. We are doing all we can to keep Sapphire healthy through this experience, including an emergency vet visit.
We also got Ollie (oops, Olive) from a local neighborhood. One of the neighbors was convinced he (actually she) was killing chickens and her life was in jeopardy. She is semi-feral, but coming around! She is a beautiful long haired orange beauty.
Walter came to us from a local business in Ft Worth, where he had been hanging around for a few months. The building owner wanted all the cats gone. He had a severe URI and also tested positive for FIV, but he is a very, very nice senior kitty. He is about done with his meds and will be joining one of our healthy groups when he is done with quarantine. There are 4 more cats at this business, which we will take when we have our buildings!
In a bit of very good news, Phantom, who tested FELv positive on a snap test actually tested negative on the more advanced IFA blood test!
We bought three more buildings this month and have purchased 300 feet of cat fencing so we can make more wonderful areas for our resident kitties.
We were also approved by PetFinder so we can start advertising our adoptable kitties!
Whew!
April 16, 2022 - The Neuces County shelter let us know about another kitten that was slated for eu. We transported Kingley to our Haven to visit and he will be available for adoption in the future from Saving Hope. We also permanently took in Teddy Bear, a semi feral girl from Mineral Wells. Her caretaker's older cats did not get along with her and she wanted her to have a permanent home since she was so sweet, in her semi-feral way. She was a bit skittish when she arrived, but is already showing signs she is content! We also took in a semi-feral boy, Hobbes, that was diagnosed with both FELv and FIV. He will join our other FELv kitties after his quarantine period. We started our building campaign so we can continue to expand and take in more permanent residents.
March 29, 2022 - Late last week, we tagged an FIV cat who was slated for eu at the shelter in Robstown, Texas. After arranging transport to Cupid's Haven, we then discovered they had 7 more healthy cats and kittens, including a pregnant female also scheduled to die! With the help of another local rescue, Saving Hope Rescue, and an amazing volunteer transporter, we tagged all 8 cats and brought them to North Texas. The pregnant mom and two kitten siblings went straight to Saving Hope foster homes. The others are visiting our Haven and will be available for adoption in the future through Saving Hope Rescue! We also acquired two puppies that were being given away for free in Mineral Well, TX. They will also be available for adoption once vetted
